Kampung Jenderam Hulu: 1910-an

“Selepas tahun 1911, ramai orang-orang yang tidak mempunyai tanah datang ke Jenderam untuk meminta tanah dan berjumpa dengan Penghulu Naim. Pembahagian tanah telah dibuat oleh Penghulu Naim dan catitan mengenai butir-butir mereka yang telah diberi tanah dibuat oleh Haji Abdullah bin Hussin. Seperti biasa, tiap-tiap seorang diberi 4 ekar tanah kawasan paya untuk bersawah termasuk tapak rumah. Penghulu Naim telah membayarkan premium tanah untuk lebih kurang 50 orang, dan orang-orang yang datang kemudiannya terpaksa membayar premium tanah mereka sendiri. Pada masa itu sesiapa sahaja boleh membuka kawasan baru asalkan dibayar premiumnya.

Antara tahun 1910 dan 1916, lebih daripada 65 keluarga telah ada di sini dan orang-orang dari luar masih lagi datang untuk membuka tanah. Ada juga orang-orang dari Sumatera berketurunan Minangkabau terus datang ke Jenderam kerana saudara mara mereka telah sedia ada di sana. Lebih daripada 90 peratus penduduk Jenderam merupakan orang- orang Sumatera berketurunan Minangkabau dari suku Pili, Jambak, Koto, Melayu dan Cheniaga (Chaniagor).

Apabila siapnya pembukaan kampung ini, penduduknya terus mendirikan sebuah surau yang dindingnya diperbuat daripada kulit kayu Meranti, lantai papan yang bertarah dengan parang dan atapnya daripada daun Bertam yang dianyam. Surau ini juga digunakan sebagai masjid selain menjalankan aktiviti dan pentadbiran masyarakat kampung. Penghulu Naim kerika itu adalah sebagai Ketua Kampung, manakala imam ialah Kari Yassin dan bilal ialah ayah Penghulu Malim dan adiknya Mohd. Rashid. Ada dua buah kedai Melayu yang dipunyai oleh Kari Jaafar dan Baginda Basar.

Pekerjaan penduduk Jenderam pada masa itu bersawah padi, mengerjakan tanah, mencari hasil-hasil hutan dan mencari ikan di Sungai Jenderam. Pada masa pembukaan Ladang Getah pada tahun 1911 di Batu 30, tenaga pekerjanya diambil daripada kalangan penduduk kampung ini yang diketuai oleh Penghulu Naim untuk membuat pekerjaan menebas, menebang, membakar, memerun, merumput dan menanam pokok getah. Pada tahun 1916, penduduk kampung telah diberi kebenaran untuk menanam getah di tanah masing-masing seluas 4 ekar seorang.”

Reservation of 5 acres of land for a Mosque and Malay burial ground at Sungei Jendram.

Sir,
I have the honour to seek sanction for the survey and reservation of an area of about 5 acres as shown in red on attached tracing as a Mosque and Burial ground for the Malay community of Sungei Jendram.
2. There is a large and increasing Malay settlement at Sungei Jendram (27th to 29th mile Bangi-Salak road) and the land now asked for is centrally situated as regards the reserve. A mosque and burial ground are certainly required.
3. If approved, the frontage will be used for a Mosque and tanah Wakaf and the back portion for a burial ground - an arrangement which can be assured by issuing a burial license for the back portion of land only.

“District Office, Kajang, 8th March 1911.
Application from His Highness the Sultan of Selangor for 1000 acres of land at Sungei Jendram.

Sir,
I have the honour to report that I have received an application No.2/11 from His Highness the Sultan of Selangor for an area of 1000 acres of land for rubber cultivation as shown in red on attached tracing.
2. The land is available, in jungle, and excellently suited for rubber and is situated with road frontage between the 30th and 31st mile Bangi-Salak road on the West.
3. On the North it adjoins the 1000 acre block approved on your papers S.R.4030/10 to Mr.A.Taylor while that on the South applied for for rubber by a European Syndicate but not yet dealt with. The land opposite is also approved for European rubber - vide your papers S.R.5606/10.
4. I recommend approval on the usual terms for 1st class rubber land with road frontage subject to the special condition that 250 acres shall be planted within 2 years and 500 acres within 5 years from date of occupation or title.

I am directed to forward herewith a copy of a letter from the District Officer, Ulu Langat recommending an application from His Highness the Sultan for an area of 1,000 acres of agricultural land in the mukim of Kajang as shown in red on the attached tracing and to inform you that the Resident supports the recommendation on the terms and condition proposed by the District Officer in his paragraph 4.

Lampiran 3: Kelulusan Residen General F.M.S.

“27th March, 1911.
Application from H.H.the Sultan of Selangor for 1,000 acres of land at Sungei Jendram.

Sir,
In reply to your letter No.(2) in 1293/1911 dated the 15th March, 1911, I am directed to inform you that the Chief Secretary approves the alienation to His Highness the Sultan of Selangor of 1,000 acres of agricultural land in the mukim of Kajang at a premium of $3 per acre and a rent of $1 for six years, $4 per acre thereafter, subject to the condition that 250 acres shall be planted within 2 years and 500 acres within 5 years.
2. I am to add that in ordinary cases when areas of more than 640 acres are aliented the Chief Secretary considers that the area to be cultivated in the first 5 years should be more that on-half the total area.
3. The tracing showing the position of the land is returned herewith.

“District Office, Kajang, 26th May 1911.
Sanction to alienate to Malays land with road frontage at Sungei Jendram.

Sir,
I have the honour to report that I have received 16 applications from new Malay settlers who hold no other land for Kampong and padi lands in the Malay reserve at Sungei Jendram at the 28th mile Bangi-Salak road.
2. There is a Malay Settlement of about 100 families there already and large reserve kept for new settlers.
3. Of the lands applied for 7 blocks - one of 10 acres for the headman and 6 of 3 acres each for his followers have road frontage and I seek approval for the alienation of these under instructions to Land Officers No.5(i).
4. If approved the terms will in all cases be 80 cents per acre for padi lands & $1.20 per acre with a condition for coconuts in the case of Kampong land.

Salah seorang guru sekolah ini, Cikgu Mohamed Soom, kemudiannya memohon sebidang tanah seluas 5 ekar di Sungai Buah (Arkib Negara 1957/0205394W, 18/06/1919: |"PERMISSION TO PURCHASE 5 ACRES OF LAND AT SUNGEI BUAH, BANGI BY MOHAMED SOOM, MALAY TEACHER, SUNGEI JENDRAM").

Kiri: Peta sekitar petempatan awal Sungai Jenderam (1913) sebelum pewartaan rizab Melayu Jenderam, kini dikenali sebagai “Jenderam Hulu”. Ketika itu Jalan Sepang-Rekoh-Kajang sahaja yang ada, dan masih melalui sebelah timur Bukit Tunggul (Central Survey Office, Kuala Lumpur, Federated Malay States (F.M.S.) @ Survey Department, Singapore; 测量局; Singapore. Kanan: Peta sekitar petempatan Sungai Jenderam (1918) setelah pewartaan rizab Melayu Jenderam. Jalan Sepang-Rekoh-Kajang kini melalui sebelah barat Bukit Tunggul. Kelihatan Jalan Bangi-Telok Datok telah siap dibina (ia juga dikenali sebagai “Jalan Bahru”, dan siap sepenuhnya sekitar tahun 1918).
