“The second long distance trial organised by the Selangor Automobile Association proved a great success. Though from the point ot view of entries the trial was below the previous one, in standard it was very much better. The course was 841 miles long, and took about 16 hours to cover - a hard test for both rider and machine. There were 43 entries, including 14 motor-cyclists. The route led from Kuala Lumpur, through Puchong, Banting, Sepang, Jendram, Port Dickson, Pengkalen Kempas, Rantau, Seremban, Jelebu Pass, Kuala Klawang, Pertang, Durian Tipis, Karak, Bentong, Tranum, Kuala Kubu, Serendah, Rawang, and then to Kuala Lumpur. This route includes many difficult stretches of road, some of which were in a poor state of repair. Everything considered the competitors stood the severe test well, and few failed to finish the course.” (The Straits Times, 11 June 1930, Page 13: |"SELANGOR A.C. TRIAL").

“Two corrections have to be made this week. It was stated in this Journal some days ago that all the Malay markets in Selangor had been organised by the Co-operative Department. This, however, is not true of the Ulu Langat district. I am indebted to a Malay correspondent for the information that in this district, especially at Kajang, the Malay markets have been organised by the ketuas (headmen) of the kampongs concerned, under the guidance of the District Officer. There are now five weekly markets in this district, at Ulu Langat on Friday, at Ulu Lui on Sunday, at Simpang Balak (Kajang) on Saturday, at Beranang on Friday and at Jendram on Sunday. A sixth market at the ninth mile, Cheras Road, is under consideration. These place names will be meaningless to most readers of the Straits Times but they are set out here as showing how a new institution is being introduced into rural life in the F.M.S., and not only in the F.M.S., for one read recently that weekly markets, or fairs, have been organised by the State Department Agriculture in Kedah and are proving very popular.” (The Straits Times, 25 June 1932, Page 18: |"A JOURNAL IN THE FEDERAL CAPITAL"). 1936-09-08: Tuduhan Penipuan Kupon Getah

THE preliminary inquiry into the case in which a young Malay, Abdul Raffer, a Settlement Officer of the Ulu Langat district, is charged with mis-appropriating certain rubber coupons belonging to small-holders, was heard yesterday in the local court, before Raja Aman Shah; District Officer, Telok Datoh, who sat as a special magistrate for the case. The charge against the accused was that on July 2, at Jenderam, acting in the capacity of a clerk, he wilfully and with intent to defraud, falsified the daily record of rubber coupons which had been received by him on behalf of the F.M.S. Government, by inserting certain low record numbers as receiving certain rubber coupons, which were in fact not issued by him. Mr. A. E. Jakeman, Chief Court lnspector, Kuala Lumpur. conducted the prosecution, while the accused was defended by Mr. K. K. Benjamin. The court house was crowded with Malays. Raja Suleiman gave evidence of the manner in which the coupons were distributed, at Jenderam, by the accused, on the day in question. This witntes was in the box the whole day and underwent severe cross-examination ty the lawyer for the defence. The ease was adjourned.“ (The Singapore Free Press and Mercantile Advertiser (1884-1942), 10 September 1936, Page 3: "RUBBER COUPON CASE").
