In March 1956 the Selangor Government announced that the exiles might be allowed to return to their smallholdings, said to be among the richest in the State. The S.W.E.C. had none. Then in March the Selangor State Secretary confessed that plans had been delayed because of 'unforeseen technical difficulties.' The technical difficulties turned out be financial. There was a difference of opinion between the State Government and the Federal Government as to who should pay - and how much. The State Government once again hopes to declare Jenderam a residential area in a month's time. This may be no more than another declaration of good intentions, but it is to be hoped that this time the promise will be kept.
